Hohloma.
(Hohlomskaya paintings).
Hohlomskaya paintings - a bright national phenomenon. Its characteristics: peculiar combination of paints - of black colour and gold and most widespread ornamental motive - a twisted branch with parts of baccas recalling a nonrigid grapevines and surrounded "Grass". Picture and colour of paintings are obliged by the parentage "Old-Russian" decorative culture, and mainly to culture 17 century. You see in this epoch similar Hohlomskaya combination of colour meet in an icon and frescos, in a book miniature, in paintings of a church utensils and wood ware.
Was eurysynusic in XVII century and magnificent "grass" ornament with its undulating rhythms. Patterns from grasss and colours, fancy animal and auks we see in carved parts and wall paintings of temples of that time, church utensils and wood furniture, on made on the salaries of icons and in a gold-plated thread of iconostases, on precious jeweller items and subjects of peasant custom. White stone carving, the frescos with gress motives decorated churches of Yaroslavl, Nizhni Novgorod and Balahtci.
In frescos of Ilya church of the Prophet in Yaroslavl, for example, much in common with Hohlomskaya paintings not only in nature of a figure, but also colourful gamma: bright colours completing each ramification of a caulis, are executed on a golden or black background the indefinitely recurring undulating propagules alternate in a measurement and smoothly varying rhythm.
One of sources hohlomskaya things was the religious books, Old-traditional" manuscript. Their prompts with composite patterns by the way of interlaced plants intercepted parts, also were decorated with gold and ligthly by zinnober. In Zavolghie, where the old believers made a large part of the population, the handwritten books were carefully stored, and in their correspondence the local artists were engaged down to XX of century.
Today, Hohlomskaya paintings, having used the best achievements of the previous times, has kept their main tendency - strengthening of an aesthetic beginning. Already for a long time Hohloma has ceased to be only domestic appliance. Sparkling by gold and bright paints of a vase and the wall panels were entered in an ensemble of a modern flat, lovely the ware even more often coming up on celebratory desktop. Many Hohlomskaya thing have now only decorative assigning.
